Like every Rune Factory games, you are a farmer where you need to grow your crops, keep animals, sell everything you made to gain some money to expand your farm. In this game Fantasy Harvest Moon, you have a lot of new challenges like fighting and defeating the monsters in dungeons and other enemies.

It is a simulation role-playing video game developed by Neverland for the Nintendo DS console. Rune Factory is a make-believe farm simulation game and a spin-off of the Harvest/moon story of seasons video game series. The harvest moon series is going on for ten years now, and it's still loved by many. The premise of harvest moon is that you play as a character and are given land that you have to turn into a farm. You have to look after over a time throughout the different seasons. You are playing the role of a farmer and have to grow different types of fruits and vegetables and sell them to get money to produce other products. You can also build enhancements to your house and farm.
The game takes place in Kardia, a small city on the eastern tip of the Adonia continent surrounded by farmland. The game starts with our hero Raguna roaming in the town. He is starving and dehydrated, and because of that, he collapses in front of the landowner's house. Mist, the landowner, finds him outside her home and give him food and water. Mist shelters him in the hope that he would work on her farm. From here, the game begins.
The player can work on the farm, explore the cave or fish, capture monsters and many more. For the story to progress, the player should open new shelters and clear it by beating the boss. As the player fights his way through the caves, he slowly discloses the mystery of the monsters attacking the village, and also begins to remember who he is and from where he has come. Apart from farming, it's a fighting game as well where you have to fight with the bosses and monsters and defeat them.
Similar to Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games, Raguna has a limited amount of stamina. But since it's a fighting game also, the player has Hitpoints which are equal to his life. Raguna also has some magic spells and to cast them; he will need Rune points. There are two exception spells- Teleport and Escape. If Raguna loses all his HP points while fighting, then the game will be over. With RP points he can buy medicines to remove the ailments. The player can replenish the RP and HP point by sleeping.
