Sonic the Hedgehog, released in the year 1991, is a side-scrolling platform game developed by the Ancient for the Sega Game Gear and an 8-bit Game Gear similar to the 16-bit Sega Genesis. 

Gameplay 

In Sonic the Hedgehog, the player needs to save the imprisoned animals by racing through levels and rescue them from Doctor Robotnik, who is planning to turn them into robots. Here the player Sonic collects rings while trying to avoid barriers, and the game focuses more on exploration. While jumping on the platform, the players also break the television to collect invincibility, shields, and speed shoes, and they mark on checkpoints. As the player starts the game with just three lives, they will lose one of their lives if they get hit without having a ring around them, fall into a pit, or drown in water. The game has six levels, which are called zones, and these zones are according to some themes such as jungles, grassy plains, and ancient ruins.
