It is a role-playing game released in 1996 for the game boy by Nintendo. The player controls the protagonists and navigates him through the world to become a Pokémon master. The game's goal is to become the Indio league's ultimate champion and defeat the eight Gym Leaders and Elite Four. There is another objective of the game that is to complete the Pokedex by collecting 151 Pokémon. The player catch, raise, and battle Pokémon with a whole band of six creatures. As the Pokémon grows, they learn new moves and become stronger. The player's skill also improves along with the Pokémon. As the player explores various areas, he must challenge and defeat strong Gym Leaders to earn their badge and then battle the Elite Four to become the Kanto Pokémon Champion.
The game occurs in the fictional Pallet Town, where the player meets Professor Oak, a famous Pokémon researcher. Professor Oak explains that there are wild Pokémon and facing them alone is very dangerous. He takes the player to his lab, where the player meets a rival Pokémon trainer who is Oak's grandson. They both select a starter Pokémon from Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. The grandson then challenges the player to a Pokémon battle, and this happens throughout the game. On his journey, the player encounters Gym leaders, who the player has to defeat to obtain the eight Gym badges. After the player gets the badges, he can join the indigo league championship. There the players face the Elite Four and then the new champion, which is the grandson. Throughout the game, the player battles Team rocket, which is a criminal organization.
